Comprehensive Eye Exam

Your comprehensive eye examination consists of several stages. First, Dr. Kemp will have a conversation with you to establish any concerns or visual difficulties you may be experiencing. This is an ideal time to communicate specific problems you may have such as eyestrain related to computer use, blurred vision, or dry eyes. This will be followed by a series of tests specifically designed to focus on establishing the reasons behind your vision problems and evaluating possible solutions.

As well as evaluating your eyesight, Dr. Kemp will also evaluate the health of your eye using conventional means such as ophthalmoscopy (looking in your eyes) as well as a number of imaging techniques when indicated, such as fundus photography and Ocular Coherence Tomography (OCT).

The Comprehensive Eye Examination concludes with Dr. Kemp evaluating all test results and discussing a treatment plan with you.

Refractive Surgery Consultation

Many patients are candidates for refractive surgery, a minimally invasive procedure that reshapes the surface of the eye in a matter of seconds using laser technology, with the goal of eliminating the need for glasses or contact lenses.

Dr. Kemp has been evaluating patients interested in refractive surgery from the inception of its availability in British Columbia.

Should you choose to explore this procedure, a key step in the process will be an evaluation by Dr. Kemp to assess the suitability of your eyes for the procedure, and an accurate determination of the refractive error that you seek to eliminate. These findings will be  communicated to your refractive surgeon, and arrangements will be made for follow up by Dr. Kemp following the procedure.

Please advise the office staff when you book your appointment with Dr. Kemp if you are considering refractive surgery.

Cataract Evaluation an Post-Surgical Follow Up

Cataracts, which represent a clouding of the lens tissue in the eyes, are a common condition resulting in a blurring of vision  and occur naturally in everyone as they age. During your eye exam, Dr. Kemp will evaluate your eyes for the presence of cataracts and will arrange a referral for cataract surgery when indicated. Following your surgery, Dr. Kemp will also evaluate your eyes for any complications, and will determine the need for any post-surgical corrective eyewear needed to maximize your visual abilities.
